Am I A Good Candidate For Pelham Invisalign Treatment?
Invisalign has millions of satisfied patients with straight, bright smiles, but it may not be for everyone. Although Invisalign is a good option for treating mild to moderate teeth and jaw misalignments, but it's not suitable for everyone. You might be a good candidate if you:
- Have mild to moderate jaw misalignment or bite complications, such as an underbite or overbite
- Have mild to moderate teeth misalignment, including crooked teeth, overcrowding, or gaps
- Are a teen or young adult (it’s easier to move the teeth to the correct positions at this age)
- Can be defined and consistent with the aligners, as they are removable, and the treatment relies on you being responsible about use
- Do not have dental bridges, dental implants, or TMJ disorder
- Do not have cavities, decay, gum disease, or other oral conditions that may require surgery
Invisalign may not be an effective treatment for severe misalignment or for people who have misshapen, smaller, or partially eroded teeth. For these people, we may recommend traditional metal braces or another orthodontic treatment to achieve the desired results.
You can call our offices today to book an appointment to determine if you are a good candidate for Invisalign treatments.
The Invisalign Process
So, just how does the Invisalign process work? It’s a multi-step process completed by a professional dentist who has been trained in this method of straightening teeth:
- Consultation: Meet with your dentist to go over what the process will look like for you and to make sure that you are a good candidate for Invisalign
- Follow the treatment plan: Your dentist creates a custom teeth straightening plan based on impressions of your mouth, X-rays, and digital imaging
- Have your aligners fitted: Your aligners are created in a dental lab. Once they’re complete, you return to your dentist to get fitted
- Wear your aligners: Consistent wear (about 22 hours per day) is the key to the best results from Invisalign. You'll keep these on unless you are eating or drinking anything other than water
- Periodic adjustments: As your teeth begin to shift to their new positions, you will need new aligners every few weeks to keep the process up
You’ll continue to wear your aligners until your teeth are in the proper position. Depending on your teeth, the entire Invisalign process can take about a year to a year and a half. This is actually about the same duration as traditional braces.
